All Bikes Only transport bookings include transit insurance as standard. Here's what that covers and what you need to know before your bike is collected.
What's Covered
Your motorcycle is automatically insured from the time of pickup through to delivery, including during loading and unloading. Cover applies in the event of an accident involving our transport vehicle and includes:
- Fire, flood, and theft
- Collision or overturning of the conveying vehicle
Insurance is based on the market value of your motorcycle as determined by our insurer.
What's Not Covered
Transit insurance does not cover:
- Damage occurring during normal movement of the bike in transit
- Aftermarket accessories, parts, or items transported alongside the motorcycle
- Mechanical issues, flat batteries, or fork seals
- Damage resulting from loose, unsecured, or detached components on your motorcycle
Please note: we do not start motorcycles and cannot conduct a mechanical assessment at the time of collection. Boxed items and helmets are handled with care by all staff, but are transported at the customer's risk.
Motorcycle Condition — Customer Responsibility
The customer is responsible for ensuring their motorcycle is fit for transport prior to collection. This includes ensuring all parts, panels, accessories, and components are mechanically secure and will not become dislodged during normal transit operations.
Bikes Only transports motorcycles in their presented condition and does not inspect or verify the mechanical integrity of any vehicle prior to loading.
Any damage caused by loose, unsecured, or detached components — whether to the customer's own motorcycle or to other motorcycles within the transport vehicle — is the sole responsibility of the customer. The customer may be held liable for the cost of damage caused to third-party property as a result of their motorcycle not being fit for transport.
If you are unsure whether your motorcycle is in suitable condition for transport, please contact us before booking.
Older & High-Mileage Motorcycles
Bikes Only transports motorcycles in all conditions, including older, high-mileage, and unregistered vehicles. Motorcycles in aged or worn condition may be more susceptible to minor incidental damage during normal transit operations, due to vibration and the general forces associated with road transport.
Bikes Only will not be held liable for damage to components that fail or become detached as a result of pre-existing wear, age-related deterioration, or mechanical fragility — including but not limited to mirrors, indicators, fairings, exhaust components, and trim pieces that are not in a sound and secure condition at the time of collection.
It is the customer's responsibility to advise us of any known fragile or loose components prior to collection, and where possible, to remove or secure those components before transport.
Bikes from Auction Houses
Motorcycles purchased from auction houses and their agencies are transported on an as-is basis. Bikes Only accepts no responsibility for pre-existing damage, mechanical issues, or cosmetic blemishes not identified in the auction house's photos or descriptions. Transit insurance still applies in the event of an accident involving our transport vehicle.
Comprehensive Insurance — Our Recommendation
While we have been professionally transporting motorcycles for over 30 years, accidents can happen. We recommend that all customers hold adequate comprehensive insurance to cover any damage not caused by a transport-related incident.
Reporting a Claim
If you believe your motorcycle has sustained damage during transit, we request that any suspected damage be noted on the consignment note at the time of delivery so that our driver can verify the condition of the motorcycle. Please then contact the Bikes Only office as soon as possible so we can investigate your claim.
Early notification helps us assess the condition of your motorcycle and work toward a prompt resolution.
